What is an anniversary dance?
The anniversary dance is a reception moment where the DJ invites every married couple in the room onto the dance floor for a slow song. As the music plays, couples are asked to leave the floor based on how long they've been married, starting with the newest. By the end of the song, only one couple is left dancing: the pair who has been married the longest.
It takes about as long as one song, costs nothing, and quietly turns the spotlight from the two of you to the marriages that raised you, taught you, and showed up for you. For a lot of couples it ends up being one of the most talked-about parts of the night.

The invitationThe DJ calls every married couple to the floor, the newlyweds included. Couples who've been married for five minutes count too.

The countdownEvery twenty or thirty seconds, the DJ asks couples under a certain number of years to step off the floor: under one year, then five, ten, twenty-five, and so on. The newlyweds are usually the first to go, which always gets a laugh.

One couple remainsOnce only a pair or two are left, the DJ asks how long they've been married and the room celebrates the winners.

The adviceThe classic finish: hand the longest-married couple the mic and ask for their one piece of advice for the newlyweds. Their answer is often the best line of the whole night.
"If you're married, grab your spouse and join our newlyweds on the dance floor."
"Alright, if you've been married less than five years, go ahead and take a seat. Newlyweds, that means you."
"Under twenty-five years, thank you. Let's hear it for them."
"Everybody, these two have been married for [NUMBER] years. Let's give them the floor."
